An Overview of Product Descriptions, Product Information and Maps

Introduction

Configio has several options for you to create and display content about your Products. You can write a Product Description that is unique for a single Product, or you may produce Product Information, save that information and assign it to multiple Products. We suggest primarily using Product Information and assigning it at the Category Level, this is the best way to setup your content for ease of management.

You can include both static and dynamic text, images, videos and links in your content. You can have more than one piece of content on a single Product and you can choose a display style for them as a System Configuration, with the ability to control that display on a per Product basis. You can rearrange and inactivate content, as well as limit specific content displayed only to Administrators. You may even include a Map for the location of your Event.

Types of Content

The types of content available include Short Description, Long Description, Product Information and Maps.

Short Description

The Short Product Description is displayed on the Product List Page. Compose it by navigating to the Products section of the Administrative side of your database, find the Product and in the Descriptions section, fill-in the Short Description field, then click the Save button.

You can then view the Short Description on a Product List Page, such as a search results page.

Long Description

The Long Product Description is displayed on the Product Details Page. You may have multiple Long Descriptions, rearrange them and choose how they are displayed on the Details page. You can have descriptions that may be viewed only by Administrators. Descriptions are best used for unique content, such as content relevant to only a single Event. See the Product Descriptions article for more information.

Product Information

Product Information is displayed on the Product Details Page. These are created independently, then assigned to Categories or Products. This allows you to centrally manage content that is used in many places. For example, if you have a venue that you always use for a Category of Events, you can create and save the Product Information, assign it to the Category and that information will be shown for every Event in the Category. If an Event is at another venue, you may simply change the Product Information assignment at the Product level.

Maps

Maps may be displayed on the Product Details page of Events. You can choose whether to have Maps on by default for new Products and you can turn off the map display on a per Product basis.
