Triggered Marketing Campaigns

Triggered Marketing Campaigns

Overview

You can create Triggered Marketing Campaigns to be fired a given number of days before or after Product dates like Event Start Date or Purchase Start Date. The campaigns are targeted at a list of Account holders or Participants. The list is generated using filters. Filters include Locations, Products Purchased, Proximity to a ZIP Code, and Recent Purchases. You can combine filters to create intelligently targeted campaigns.

For example, you can create a Triggered Marketing Campaign targeted at men aged 20-39 who live within 10 miles of the 90210 ZIP Code, have purchased something from the Luxury Items Category, have attended an Event at The Los Angeles Country Club or The Bel-Air Country Club, and have placed an Order in the last 90 days.

Creating the Email Message
Login to the Administrative side of your database, and navigate to Settings --> Assignments --> Email Messages. Click to Add New Email. Input a Title, choose the type Triggered Marketing Campaign, and click the "Save" button.

You can now begin to compose your Email Message. Input a Subject, and add text to the Body. You can use plain text, and you can use Operators, in both the Subject and the Body of the message. (Please note that there is a 50 character limit in email subject lines.) Operators read data from the system that is relevant to the Order, Account, Participant, or Product, and input that data into the email. (Please note that the Account Name Operator returns the Username. If you are looking for their First and Last Name, use the Account Full Name Operator.)

Main Fields

Input a Title and choose the Type. Account Marketing Campaigns targets Accounts, and Participant Marketing Campaigns targets Participants. Choose your Message, choose your "From" identity, and choose the date range that the Triggered Email will be used. If you want the Triggered Email to not expire, you can select No End Date.

Note: From Identities are populated with Verified Sender identities in the Email Campaigns system. See the Email Campaigns help article for more information.

Options

There are a few options for you to consider.

  • Turn on to not send the email if the product is inactive - this will stop the campaign from running if the product that would trigger campaign is inactive.
  • Turn on to not send emails to Accounts / Participants that have purchased / participated in a variation of the Product that is assigned - Accounts/Participants that have already purchased the product that triggers the campaign are always removed from the campaign list; check this box to also ignore the Accounts/Participants that have purchased a sibling variation to the triggering product.
  • Turn on to apply this Triggered Email only to Assigned Stand Alone or Master Products (ignore direct or inherited assignments to variation) - check this box if you do not want variations to trigger the campaign, only Master and Stand Alone products.

AND Matches verses OR Matches

If you have more than one value for a filter, then both of those values will be used. This is called an OR match. For example, if you had two values in the Location filter row, then Accounts who had purchased Events at either the first location OR the second location would be marketed to.

If you have more than one filter, then those filters row will be combined in an AND match. For example, if you had an Age filter and a Gender filter, then Accounts who are in that Age Range AND had are that Gender would be marketed to.

Viewing your Filters

After you have saved a filter, the Edit Triggered Email screen is shown again. It will list your filters. In the following example, the campaign targets men aged 20-39 who have purchased something from the Luxury Items Category, have attended an Event at The Los Angeles Country Club or The Bel-Air Country Club, live within 10 miles of 90210, and have placed an Order in the last 90 days,

Note: If you have two of the same Type of filters on separate rows, they will be AND matched. This can create filters that would return no Accounts, such as having two Gender filters, as  Accounts in our system cannot have both the Male and Female gender.

Notes

This is a large feature, so here are few notes regarding it's behavior that you may find useful:

  1. If an Ordered Item that is returned by the filters has been Refunded and Removed, the Account/Participant will still be marketed to.
  2. If an Account has already purchased the Item that is assigned the Campaign, then they will not be marketed to.
  3. Campaigns can be copied between Franchises, however any Campaigns that have database-specific filters (such as Location, Region, or Category) cannot be copied.
  4. If a Campaign is copied between Franchises, the Campaign in the target database will have the "From" value set to the fallback for that database.
