Introduction

Visualizing a report provides you with various options and features that can be used to manipulate your report so it displays information specific to your needs. Note: Make sure to save any changes you've made!

Getting Started

To get started create a new report or edit an existing report, ensure that your user permissions allow "Edit Viewer", then click the "Visualize Report" button. Changes to the report visualizer are only saved when you click the "Save" button. Changes to the report visualizer have no impact on scheduled reports or reports that are downloaded using the "Download Raw Data" button.

Show/Hide

To hide a column from the report visualizer you can either drag and drop the column off screen, or deselect the checkbox in the columns sidebar. To show a hidden column in the report visualizer you can either drag and drop the column from the columns sidebar into a position in the table header or select the checkbox in the columns sidebar. If you do not see the desired column listed in the columns sidebar you have not added that field to the underlying dataset.

Reordering

Drag and drop to rearrange columns. By dragging a column towards a horizontal edge of your screen, the report will scroll in that direction to make moving columns around easier. After making changes, be sure and click Save.

Sorting

Click on any column to change the sort order of your report. Additional clicks on the same column toggle between ascending, descending, and no sort. By holding the [shift] key you can select multiple columns for sorting. Make sure to save your changes.

Filtering

Column filtering can be accessed using two different methods. You can either hover over any column and click the menu icon then switch to the filter tab, or you can switch to the filter sidebar and expand the column you'd like to filter on. You can filter on any number of columns, the filter sidebar displays the columns used in a filter. The filter controls change based on the data type of the column. For numeric columns, filter controls include operators like "greater than" or "less than" while list-based columns use checkbox filters. After making changes, be sure and click Save.

Grouping

Grouping rows by a column provides a rolled-up view of your data and works well with aggregation (see next section). You can group reports by any column. You can either hover over a column then click the menu icon and the "Group by {Field Name}" option, or you can drag and drop the column to the "Row Groups" section in the columns sidebar or the row group header. Rearranging multiple row groups in the row groups section determines the group hierarchy. Once a report has been grouped, you can click the expandable ">" icons to expand/collapse that group. The "Expand Groups" and "Collapse Groups" buttons are available at the bottom of the screen when working with multiple groups.

Aggregate

Once a report has been grouped (see previous section), aggregate columns provide rolled-up data for the group. You cannot view aggregations until a group has been set up. You can aggregate any number of columns, though it will likely only be beneficial to aggregate numeric or currency columns (avoid aggregating date/text columns for example). To aggregate a column from the columns sidebar, drag and drop it to the "Values" section. Alternatively, you can hover over the column in the report, click the menu icon, and select "Value Aggregation" then select an operator. Once aggregating a column you can change the operator between avg, count, first, last, max, min, and sum.

Pivot Mode

This advanced feature allows you to use the data in the report rows as the columns for the report. For example, if your report has a column for "Month" and you want to display each month as a column with aggregated data for each month of the year, Pivot Mode can help accomplish this. To get started with pivot mode, check the "Pivot Mode" checkbox located in the top right sidebar. This will remove all of the columns from the report and display a new "Column Labels" section. Drag and drop the column(s) you want displayed to the "Column Labels" section, this will take the unique data from that column and build new columns. Next drag and drop a column to the "Values" section to be used for aggregation. You can also add groups to pivot mode by dragging and dropping the column to the "Row Groups" section.

Charts

To create a chart click and drag to select table cells that you want to be displayed in the chart, then right-click and select "Chart Range". You may need to rearrange columns to select cells that you can see on the chart. If your chart has duplicates along the series x-axis your report data must first be grouped by the column where the duplicate occurs.

Export

Once you've customized the report visualizer to your liking you can either click the "Export" button in the bottom right, or you can right-click anywhere on the report and select "Export" from the menu.
