Introduction

Configio enables you to create robust and flexible Discount programs for your Product catalog. One type of Discount is Coupons. With Configio, you can indicate whether a single Coupon Code can be used on only a single Product in a Shopping Cart, or whether the code can be used on multiple Cart Products simultaneously. This is called an Order Coupon because it can be used on the entire Order, and not on just an single Item in the Order.

Getting Started

There are no System level Configurations related to this feature.

Creating Coupon Discounts

Please see the Coupon Discounts article for a step-by-step walk-through. The article covers: creating Discounts, creating the Coupon type of Discount Requirement, creating Coupon Codes, assigning Discounts to Products, looking up Codes for troubleshooting, and Reporting.

Marking it as an Order Coupon

On the Discount's Requirement page, check the box titled Order Coupon and click the SAVE button.

Note: The key difference with an Order Coupon is that there is 1 consumption per order, not per order item. And, it can span that single consumption (single discount amount) across multiple products.

For example, if you have three $20 shirts in your cart, and a $50 coupon code with a single use:
A non-Order coupon would discount the first shirt $20 and do nothing else (single consumption)
An Order coupon would discount the first two shirts $20 and the third shirt $10 to make the total $50 discount on the order

Your Customer's Experience - Dollar Amount-Based Coupon

Like many other Discounts, Coupons (including Order Coupons) can be dollar-based or percent-based. Let's look at dollar-based Coupons.

There is a Promotions and Coupon Codes section of the Payments tab during Checkout.

They can enter the Coupon Code and then click the "Apply Coupon" button. They will see descriptions of how the Discount affected the Price of each Item, and they will see the new Price of each Item, as well as the new Order Total. Below, each item was assigned the Discount, the Discount was worth $25.00, and so it changed the Total from $27.00 to $2.00.

Your Customer's Experience - Percentage-Based Coupon

Let's look at percentage-based coupons. Let's also look at how tax is handled, as well as the experience if not all Cart Products are assigned the Discount.

After inputting the Coupon Code on the Payments tab and clicking the "Apply Coupon" button, there are descriptions of how the Discount affected the Price of each Item, the Discounts are shown in the Cart Summary, and there is a new Order Total. As you can see, there Discount is applied before taxed, and Products that are not assigned the Discount simply do not have the Discount.

Notes

  1. This Coupon is designed to be used on a single Order. If a some Discounted Items from an Order is refunded and removed, then the coupon cannot be used on other Orders. However, if all Discounted Items from an Order are refunded and removed, then the Coupon can be used again.
  2. The key difference with an Order Coupon is that there is 1 consumption per order, not per order item.
